5 steps to take to become a Green Photographer

A lot of photographers asked me “How to become a Green Photographer?”. I frequently replied that you already are green photographers at a certain level.

Like I already wrote few weeks ago in precedent article (10 rules to be a green photographer), I decide to make a quicker and smaller list to have a good start.

Here are the 5 steps to achieve to be green photographer quickly:

  1. Use a digital camera
  2. Use rechargeable batteries and recycle (see Theresa comment below)
  3. Use electronic delivery of images through e-mail, FTP and our website
  4. Send out your portfolio electronically only and finally,
  5. Use local business only to run your photographic business

These are the simple steps you can take quickly and I pretty sure, most of you, are already doing that.

  1. Please add “recycle” to tip # 2. Rechargeable batteries can be charged up to 1,000 times and last between 2-5 years. But eventually when they can no longer hold a proper charge, they can be 100% recycled for free through http://www.call2recycle.org.

In addition to camera batteries, consider all the other rechargeable batteries used in cordless electronics by photographers – laptops, cell phones, camcorders, mp3 players, power tools, two-way radios, cordless GPS, etc… Any cordless electronic that needs to be plugged into to be recharged contains a rechargeable battery that can be recycled at end of life.

  2. Hello Theresa,

It’s completely true! Recycle not only your batteries but your electronics equipment (see the post “Recycle your gear”). Thank you for the comment, I added “Recycle” on the post.
